Overview of Energy Markets in 2019 and Expectations for 2020 with Her Majesty’s Consul General Andrew Jackson.
This year has been one of the most challenging in recent years for the Energy Sector, against a backdrop of some large project awards there remains a market in state of flux due to an ongoing trade war, geopolitical tension in the Middle East and a drop in consumer demand. According to the short-term Energy Outlook by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, worldwide crude oil prices will average $64 a barrel in the second half of 2019 and $65/b in 2020. But what does this mean and what have been the factors in this year’s bear market?
OPEC recently undertook an unprecedented move inviting all 97 producers to join the OPEC+ coalition to help balance the market. As the industry looks towards transitioning to a different energy mix, many traditional oil and gas companies are recognising the need to take action and diversify into other sectors including renewables. We will discuss what this means for the future and how it impacts business in the UAE.
