EmotionalIntelligence, or ‘EQ’, is a vital ingredient in building successfulrelationships, both personally and professionally. The ability to be able to ‘readpeople’ accurately can help to establish and build rapport, trust, and positivecommunication and influence. The latest research shows that understanding andapplying EQ skills has a profound impact on both employees (recruitment,engagement, productivity and retention rates) and customers (marketing, sales,satisfaction and loyalty).

The BBG ‘Boost yourEQ’ workshop on 1^st February will introduce the principles of soundevidence-based applied behavioural psychology to members and their guests.

The seven universalfacial expressions of emotion, identified by Dr Paul Ekman, are the easiest ofthe five communication channels to recognise. Members and guests will learn howto identify these as well as developing their ability to accurately spot themicro-expressions of emotion that are so rapid that they can’t be faked,immediately boosting your EQ skills!


About the Speaker

Dr Leila Edwards – MDand Principal, Transformations Institute

Dr Leila is an expertin education and human development, focusing on the practical applications ofpositive psychology for individuals, couples and families, as well as in thecorporate and public sectors. An entrepreneur, researcher and educator, she hasserved in senior management roles in colleges and universities in the UK andMiddle East, at Dean and Director level. She established the firstUK-accredited professional practitioner qualification courses in the GCC forpsychological therapists, as well bringing Dr Paul Ekman’s EQ training to theregion as a Lead Trainer for the Emotional Intelligence Academy. Dr Leila wasselected as a preferred trainer and consultant by the Confederation of BritishIndustry (CBI) and was honoured with a ‘Women of the West’ award for hercontribution to lifelong learning and promoting access, participation andstudent achievement in further and higher education.

Phil Edwards – Executive Director, Transformations Institute

Phil’s career hasspanned a wide variety of sectors, from construction to social services, charitiesand disability support, with research interests in mind-body health andwell-being approaches with practical real-world applications. He has ledinnovative projects in universities and specialises in effective communicationand influencing skills. Phil is personally “highly recommended” as a MasterPractitioner, Coach and Trainer in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) by thecreator and co-Founder of NLP, Dr Richard Bandler. He leads the only Society ofNLP™ Licensed Centre of its kind in the GCC.
